A cashback program running from March 20 to May 31, 2026, allowed 2.3 million Ukrainians to receive fuel compensation. The rebate covered 15% for diesel, 10% for petrol, and 5% for autogas. Despite these efforts, Ukraine ranked among the top ten countries with the fastest diesel price growth, seeing a 33.9% increase.

It is also worth noting that over 85% of light petroleum products in Ukraine rely on imports. According to data, from February 26 to March 31, diesel prices surged by 86%, while import costs rose by 58%. Station prices climbed by 39%, and average petrol prices at pumps increased by 16%. Pavlo Kyrylenko highlighted that the primary objective factor behind the price hikes was the shutdown of Ukraine's largest and essentially only oil refinery, forcing over 85% of light petroleum products to depend on imports.

The Antimonopoly Committee found no monopolistic actions in the market, indicating a stable competitive environment amid rising fuel prices.

This fuel price update in Ukraine reflects a complex economic landscape, particularly the heavy reliance on imported petroleum products and challenges in domestic production. These factors lead to significant price volatility, affecting both consumers and the broader economy. Government initiatives, such as the cashback program, play a crucial role in attempting to ease the financial burden on the population during these price increases.
