Biden signs record defense budget. Assistance to Ukraine

The President of the United States, Joseph Biden, signed the country's defense budget for the next year.

The document allocates record funding of $858 billion for military assistance to Ukraine.

'Today I signed the appropriations law for national defense for the fiscal year 2023,' Biden said.

The document allocates $6 billion for a program to deter the aggression of the Russian Federation in Europe and an additional $800 million to assist Ukraine.

The law extends the five-year ban on U.S. military cooperation with the Russian Federation. It mandates seeking the exclusion of Russia from international organizations, including the G20.

The budget also provides support to Taiwan, which is threatened by China.

On December 21, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met at the White House with U.S. President Joseph Biden.

On the same day, Biden signed a memorandum to allocate up to $1 billion. The funds will go towards providing weapons and defense services to Ukraine and training Ukrainian soldiers. The new military assistance includes, in particular, the Patriot missile defense system.

Zelensky also addressed Congress. Representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties called the speech of the Ukrainian president inspiring and timely.
