Bear Robotics Accelerates KR1 Humanoid Robot’s Data Processing to 60ms with NVIDIA Technology
Breakthrough in Data Processing Speeds for the KR1 Humanoid Robot
According to НВ — Техно: On October 22, 2023, Bear Robotics revealed a major advancement in the data processing capabilities of its humanoid robot, KR1. Leveraging NVIDIA's cutting-edge technology, the robot's data processing time was dramatically reduced from 500 milliseconds to just 60 milliseconds during internal testing. The newly introduced KINO-2 system, showcased at NVIDIA GTC Berlin, trains robots by mimicking human demonstrations. This innovation enables KR1 to efficiently handle warehouse inventory and supermarket tasks.
The KR1 robot’s environmental perception runs on NVIDIA Isaac OS, supported by the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor hardware platform and the NVIDIA Holoscan SDK 5.0 software suite. Key optimizations, including NVIDIA TensorRT and model quantization techniques, helped cut processing times for the NVIDIA Isaac GR00T model from 500 ms down to approximately 60 ms. Additionally, Bear Robotics’ proprietary model achieved a 4.2-fold acceleration, improving from 72.3 ms to 17.2 ms.
KR1 Demonstrations and Industry Applications
At NVIDIA GTC Berlin, KR1 was demonstrated performing complex warehouse operations such as order retrieval, bottle handling, packing into containers, delivery, and returning empty containers. Bear Robotics is also testing these manipulation capabilities in retail and warehouse environments. The company plans to integrate mobile robots for transporting goods with KR1 humanoids for item handling, aiming to significantly boost operational efficiency in these industries.
To date, Bear Robotics has deployed over 16,000 robots across more than 5,000 client locations worldwide. Most of these are service robots rather than humanoids like KR1. The company has not provided detailed reliability data for KR1’s autonomous performance in complex workflows, leaving questions about its ability to operate independently in challenging scenarios.
Advancements in KR1’s technology hold promise for transforming automation across logistics and retail sectors. Faster data processing paves the way for these robots to be more seamlessly integrated into everyday business operations.
Nonetheless, uncertainties remain regarding their autonomy and dependability in real-world environments. This highlights the necessity for ongoing testing and refinement to ensure these robots can be deployed safely and effectively at scale.
As the robotics industry continues to evolve, Bear Robotics' advancements with the KR1 humanoid robot highlight the rapid progress in automation technology. In a similar vein, Tuesday Labs has recently opened pre-orders for their Voxel Series-1 bipedal robot, set to launch in 2028. This indicates a growing interest in versatile robotic solutions across various sectors, further underscoring the transformative potential of robotics in our daily lives.
