Emergency Power Outages Leave 178 Ukrainian Settlements in the Dark
Power Supply Crisis in Ukraine
According to Главком: Emergency power outages and scheduled blackouts are affecting communities across Ukraine. Over 178 settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions are currently without electricity. The blackouts are a result of both adverse weather conditions and ongoing hostilities. Repair crews from regional power companies are working around the clock to restore damaged power lines. This situation is part of a wider, persistent strain on Ukraine's energy grid since the full-scale invasion began.
Consumers in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, and Odesa regions have also been cut off due to combat and shelling. Emergency restoration work has begun wherever security conditions permit. Amidst these challenges, Kyiv has received humanitarian aid from Slovakia, consisting of:
- 16 generators of varying capacities;
- two high-power charging stations.
The total value of the equipment provided is 166 thousand euros. Among the items received are three of the most powerful units, with capacities of 225 kW, 100 kW, and 63 kW, which will be allocated to schools in various districts of Kyiv.
Repairing Critical Energy Infrastructure
Furthermore, the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant in Kyiv has been temporarily shut down due to severe damage inflicted during a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on the night of Tuesday, February 3rd. These ongoing emergencies require swift operational responses, prompting energy workers and local authorities to prioritize the rapid restoration of power for residents.
The power supply situation in Ukraine remains critical due to the combined impact of severe weather and military actions. Humanitarian aid in the form of generators will help partially alleviate the electricity shortage, especially for educational institutions.
Restoring energy infrastructure is a top priority for local authorities and utility workers, who are striving to ensure a stable electricity supply amidst the continuing conflict.
