According to glavcom.ua: Bronze medalist of the Olympic Games Audun Grenvold died from a lightning strike. This was reported by 'Glavkom' with reference to VG.

The 49-year-old Norwegian freeskier, who competed in the ski cross discipline, was taken to the hospital after being struck by lightning but died from his injuries.

'Norwegian skiing has lost an outstanding person, who meant a lot to both the alpine community and freestyle,' said Federation President Tove Mo Dirhaug.

In 2007, Grenvold won the bronze medal at the World Championship and that same year won the overall World Cup. At the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, he became a bronze medalist.
After finishing his career, he worked as a coach for the Norwegian national team and as a television commentator.

As previously reported, Yuri Bredak (callsign 'Clever') - a well-known Ukrainian rower - was killed at the front.

Similarly tragic was the life of another athlete - Vitaly Rimaruk. The 26-year-old discus thrower was the youth champion of Ukraine and a medalist of the adult championship.

Vitaly Rimaruk served as an officer in the 1st combat group of the 4th special purpose group of the 4th separate battalion of special operations for counterintelligence 'Omega' of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Due to unfortunate incidents in sports, several outstanding athletes have been lost, including the bronze medalist of the Olympics and the champion of Ukraine. The tragedies have impacted both the sports community and fans around the world.
