Chernivtsi received three buses from Luxembourg: when will they go into service

Chernivtsi received three buses from the municipal administration of Luxembourg. The transport is equipped with air conditioning and is accessible for people with disabilities and passengers with limited mobility. The new vehicles can help the city, where due to a shortage of 90 drivers, it has already been necessary to reduce the number of vehicles on certain routes. This is reported by Suspilne Chernivtsi.

When will the Luxembourg buses go into service in Chernivtsi

The delivered buses cannot transport passengers yet. The Chernivtsi trolleybus administration must complete the acceptance process, register them, and install validators.

The head of the Chernivtsi Trolleybus Management, Hryhoriy Orobetz, predicts that the registration process may take from one to two months. It is currently impossible to specify the exact date when the vehicles will go into service.

«Currently, the procedure for transferring these buses is ongoing, which may take some time. We do not yet understand how long the document processing will take — a month or two,» — Orobetz said.

After registration, the buses will be equipped with fare payment systems. In Chernivtsi, passengers can already pay for travel through Smart City, as well as track the movement of buses and trolleybuses in real-time.

«The buses need to be registered and equipped with validators — then it will be clear when this transport will be able to go into service,» — explained the head of the enterprise.

Will three buses increase the number of vehicles in Chernivtsi

It is still unclear whether the buses received from Luxembourg will become additional vehicles on city routes or replace part of the old fleet. The decision will be made after the registration process is completed.

This issue is especially relevant for Chernivtsi due to the shortage of drivers. At the beginning of September, the Chernivtsi Trolleybus Management reported that the enterprise needs 49 more bus drivers and 41 trolleybus drivers.

The staff shortage has already affected the transportation. Only one bus is operating on route No. 7, the number of vehicles on No. 29 has decreased from three to two, and on No. 1 — from four to three.

Therefore, the arrival of the buses does not guarantee an increase in the number of vehicles on the routes: for their regular operation, the enterprise also needs drivers.

Chernivtsi already has experience receiving public transport from European cities. It is worth recalling that earlier Inkorr reported that due to a shortage of drivers in the city, buses from Prague were idle.
