Previous Achievements and Upcoming Opponents
Last season, Kostyuk reached the round of 16 at the US Open, and in 2024, she made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. During this year’s Paris tournament, she has also defeated opponents such as:
- Oksana Selekhmetieva
- Katie Volynets
Notably, in 2021, Kostyuk lost to Iga Swiatek in the round of 16 at Roland Garros.
Kostyuk’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Magda Linette (WTA No. 73) and Iga Swiatek (WTA No. 3). It is also worth highlighting that, for the first time in history, four Ukrainian women have reached the round of 32 at Roland Garros:
- Elina Svitolina
- Marta Kostyuk
- Yuliia Starodubtseva
- Oleksandra Oliynykova
Previously, Ukraine’s best showing in Paris was three representatives at this stage in 2025.
This marks the first time four Ukrainian players have advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam tournament, reflecting the rising level of Ukrainian tennis on the international stage. This trend underscores the growing competitiveness among Ukrainian female tennis players and their ability to achieve high-level results, which could positively impact the overall development of tennis in Ukraine.
While Marta Kostyuk continues to shine in singles at the French Open, her journey in doubles faced an unexpected hurdle. A heatstroke incident involving her partner forced her withdrawal, highlighting the unpredictable nature of tournament play and the challenges athletes face beyond their individual matches.
