Certification Process for Canine Rescuers

According to ДСНС: Rescue dogs from various units of the Emergency Service recently underwent their yearly certification at the Rapid Response Mobile Rescue Center in Sumy. During the evaluation, both canine handlers and their dogs showcased their expertise through a series of demanding challenges. Notably, for the first time, the examination included a dedicated assessment of their ability to locate the bodies of deceased victims.

Details of the Certification Stages

Spanning an entire week, the certification involved multiple rigorous tests, including:

  • obedience and agility drills conducted on a stadium field;
  • search operations at a simulated technological disaster site involving a collapsed building;
  • tracking and locating victims in a natural forest environment.

These exercises were designed to thoroughly evaluate the preparedness of rescuers and their canine partners under challenging conditions.

This certification plays a crucial role in advancing the skills of rescue teams, measuring not only their technical proficiency but also their readiness to respond effectively in emergency scenarios. Enhancing the capabilities of canine handlers and their dogs is vital for delivering efficient aid during disasters and accidents, significantly improving the chances of saving lives. The introduction of new testing components, such as searching for deceased individuals, reflects ongoing improvements in Ukraine’s rescue methodologies.
