DBR detains a border guard-mediator: how conscripts were smuggled to Transnistria

The State Bureau of Investigations, together with the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service, stopped an illegal route for those attempting to evade military service by smuggling themselves from Ukraine to Transnistria. The 'corridor' for conscripts was discovered in 2025 when a border guard officer offered to transport a person beyond the controlled checkpoint in exchange for 4,500 dollars.

The illegal mediator provided the buyer with specific instructions on the route and means necessary for a successful border crossing. The suspect is now under suspicion of illegally transporting people across the border. The issue of a preventive measure and the dismissal of the perpetrator, who could face up to 9 years of imprisonment under this article, is also being resolved.

Ukrainian law enforcement has halted the activities of an illegal channel for smuggling military conscripts across the border, which had been active since August 2025. The detained mediator offered to evade service abroad at a high price, but law enforcement intervened promptly and stopped his operations, announcing suspicion and considering the possibility of dismissal. The perpetrator faces up to 9 years in prison for the illegal transportation of individuals across the border.
