Denis "Redis" Prokopenko was awarded the title of brigadier general
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the title of brigadier general to the commander of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine "Azov" Denis Prokopenko. The corresponding decree was published on the website of the President's Office. This is reported by Ukrainian Truth.
The decree states: "To award the military rank of brigadier general to Colonel Prokopenko Denis Hennadiovych - the commander of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine "Azov"."
Denis Prokopenko received the title of brigadier general
Denis Prokopenko, known by the call sign "Redis", is a Hero of Ukraine and one of the commanders of the defense of Mariupol. At the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, he led the defense of the city and the "Azovstal" plant under conditions of complete encirclement.
In May 2022, the military was taken prisoner by the Russians. In September of that year, he was released during a large-scale exchange. After staying in Turkey, he returned to Ukraine in July 2023 and resumed his official duties.

In April 2025, two corps were created within the structure of the National Guard of Ukraine. The 1st Corps was headed by Denis Prokopenko, while the 2nd Corps was headed by the commander of the 13th Brigade of Operational Assignment "Charta" Ihor Obolensky.
In 2025, Prokopenko was included in the UP100 list - a list of Ukrainians who shape the independence and future of the state.
