'Aggressor State' - the US is preparing a new status for Russia

The United States may recognize Russia as an 'aggressor country'. This status has not been applied to any country before.

The White House has prepared a bill on this in collaboration with Congress, reports The Hill.

If the bill is passed, US President Joe Biden will be able to impose sanctions on anyone from Russia responsible for or involved in aggression.

'This would isolate Moscow internationally and compel the US to impose restrictions on countries cooperating with the Kremlin,' the statement says.

The bill also states that the US President will have the authority to 'designate any foreign country as an aggressor state' if he determines that it is involved 'in acts of aggression against Ukraine.'

The publication also points out that this is specifically about recognizing 'an aggressor state', not a 'state sponsor of terrorism', as requested by Ukrainian authorities.

'Ukrainian officials told The Hill that the status of 'aggressor state' does not meet their requests to define Russia as a 'terrorist state'. But they support this measure as a way to describe Russia as committing terrorist acts. Overall, they may support the introduction of a separate term if it provides additional tools for punishing aggressor states,' the statement says.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky went on an official visit to the US on December 21. This information was officially confirmed by the president's office.

In the new package of military aid to Ukraine, the US will provide a Patriot missile battery. After that, Ukrainian fighters will learn to operate it. This was stated on the White House website. It is expected that US President Joe Biden will announce the new aid package on December 21.
