Disney fights for Mickey Mouse in court
Walt Disney accused the Hong Kong company Red Earth Group of trademark infringement. The company sold jewelry featuring Mickey Mouse under the brand Satéur, leading to a lawsuit in Los Angeles. Disney believes that Red Earth is trying to deceive consumers by selling products under another brand.
“Satéur intends to present Mickey Mouse as its own brand for its products and to use the popularity of the Mickey Mouse trademark and consumers' affection for Disney,” the lawsuit stated.
Disney further noted that Red Earth and Satéur are trying to use the cultural phenomenon status as a means of legitimizing their products, presenting it as the 'Mickey Collection of 1928.'
In this story, Walt Disney stands against the Hong Kong company, which it accuses of using its name and the image of Mickey Mouse without permission. Satéur is trying to capitalize on the popularity of the character to promote its jewelry, but Disney has decided to protect its trademarks and prevent potential misunderstandings among consumers.
