Dnipro will receive 20 new trams and trolleybuses: the first cars are already ready

Dnipro will receive 20 units of new electric transport: five low-floor trams and 15 trolleybuses with autonomous operation. The trams were already produced by the local enterprise 'Tatra-Yug', and eight trolleybuses are planned to be delivered by the end of 2026. Earlier, the city ordered five low-floor trams as part of a project with the EIB. This is reported by Autocentre.

How many new trams will Dnipro receive in 2026

The first five modern tram cars have already been produced by the Dnipro enterprise 'Tatra-Yug'. This is a low-floor transport designed for the transportation of people with disabilities, elderly passengers, and parents with strollers.

The first new tram arrived in Dnipro back in February 2026 and after testing began to transport passengers. It is a three-section K1T306 model, designed for 254 passengers.

The updates for the city are particularly important due to the age of the existing rolling stock. The average age of Dnipro's trams exceeds 40 years. Out of 254 cars, only five are low-floor.

The city does not plan to stop with this batch. In August, Dnipro and the European Investment Bank announced a new tender for trams with a maximum cost of 7.79 million euros. The new cars should be approximately 26–27 meters long and accommodate about 250 passengers.

Thus, the current supply of five K1T306 is just one of the stages in the modernization of Dnipro's tram system.

When will Dnipro receive 15 new trolleybuses

The next stage will be the supply of 15 low-floor trolleybuses 'Dnipro T-203'. They will have autonomous operation, allowing them to continue running on certain sections without an overhead line.

Deliveries are scheduled for 2026-2027. The city plans to receive the first eight vehicles in 2026, and the remaining seven in the next phase.

After fulfilling the contract, Dnipro's fleet will consist of 111 modern low-floor trolleybuses. This will constitute approximately 65% of the entire trolleybus fleet in the city. In comparison, the average age of trolleybuses currently stands at 17 years.

The new electric transport will operate on regular city routes, including along the first barrier-free route within the 'Barrier-Free Movement' project. Its implementation is expected to make trips more accessible to passengers with reduced mobility.

The project also addresses another task: orders are received by Ukrainian manufacturers. The trams produced by 'Tatra-Yug' are made directly in Dnipro, allowing for the renewal of public transport while supporting domestic machine engineering.

It should be noted that Dnipro had previously announced it would receive four new trams by the end of 2026 after the delivery of the first car in February.
