Day Two of the NBU and Global Partners’ Online Conference Focuses on Ukraine’s Support and Reform Efforts

Highlights from the Second Day of the #NBUNBPconference26

According to НБУ: The second day of the #NBUNBPconference26 began with opening remarks from officials representing the National Bank of Ukraine, the National Bank of Poland, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the German Ambassador to Ukraine. Due to security concerns, the entire conference is held online. Key topics this year center around resilience, adaptability, trust, accountability, and sustaining support for Ukraine amid both conflict and ongoing reforms.

Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, emphasized the necessity for institutions to evolve in response to emerging challenges. He stated:

'Facing future shocks isn’t about predicting every crisis in advance. It’s about building and maintaining institutions capable of fulfilling their roles even when forecasts fail, conventional tools fall short, and established solutions don’t apply.' - Andriy Pyshnyi

He also highlighted the crucial link between resilience and flexibility:

'Resilience can’t exist without flexibility, but flexibility requires a solid foundation.'

Additionally, Pyshnyi remarked, 'Trust demands transparency, and transparency calls for responsibility.'

Pawel Shalamacha, Board Member of the National Bank of Poland, expressed strong support for the NBU, calling its performance during full-scale war a remarkable demonstration of resilience. He remarked that 'central bank independence is not a privilege; it is essential to fulfilling its mandate.' Prisilla Tofano from the IMF reaffirmed the importance of the partnership between the IMF and the NBU, describing the conference as a vital platform for knowledge exchange among central banks and policymakers.

German Ambassador to Ukraine, Boris Ruge, reiterated Germany’s steadfast backing, emphasizing that 'Germany remains a consistent supporter of Ukraine’s military, economic, and financial needs.' He further asserted that 'Ukraine is an integral part of the European family and will join the EU in the future,' adding that 'the German government is committed to assisting Ukraine’s reform path.'
