New Survivor’s Pension Entitlement Granted to Wives of Missing-in-Action Soldiers
Pension Eligibility for Military Spouses
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine’s Pension Fund has announced that the wife of a service member officially declared missing under special circumstances is now eligible for a survivor’s pension. This benefit extends to any non-working family member of individuals who have been granted missing-in-action status under such conditions. It also covers military wives who either have a disability or have reached retirement age.
Payment Terms and Conditions
Eligibility for the survivor’s pension begins one month after the person’s details are entered into the Unified Register of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances. Payments will continue for as long as the missing-in-action status remains in effect. However, if a person qualifies for multiple types of pensions, as outlined in Article 10 of the Law on Compulsory State Pension Insurance, only one benefit will be awarded-chosen by the recipient.
Payments will stop effective the first day of the month following the date when a record in the register indicates that the individual’s whereabouts have been determined. These rules are designed to provide social protection for families who have lost a breadwinner in the context of military operations.
The Pension Fund’s decision marks a significant step in supporting the families of soldiers who have gone missing.
During wartime, many households face severe hardships due to the loss of a primary earner. Ensuring these social guarantees can help reduce the financial strain on such families. This initiative also underscores the state’s commitment to its citizens who risk their lives to defend the country.
In addition to the newly introduced survivor’s pension for the wives of missing-in-action soldiers, the government is also enhancing financial support for military retirees. This includes increased allowances for dependents, aimed at alleviating the economic burden faced by those who have served the nation.
