Hands-On IMSMA Core Training Conducted in Kyiv

According to ДСНС: In October 2023, Kyiv hosted two practical training sessions on the IMSMA Core system for personnel from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS), supported by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). These courses focused on enhancing the abilities of rescuers and sappers to collect and analyze mine-related hazard data-an essential part of their operational readiness.

The training, held from October 20-22 and October 27-29, covered key competencies including:

  • Data entry using standardized forms;
  • Information gathering, monitoring, and validation;
  • Utilizing interactive maps and web applications.

Participants also gained experience working with analytical dashboards designed to improve decision-making and efficiency in managing mine risks.

Advanced IMSMA Core Administrator Course in Lviv

Earlier in summer 2023, an intensive 'IMSMA Core Administrator' course was delivered at Lviv State University of Life Safety. Representatives from three educational institutions attended:

  • Lviv State University of Life Safety;
  • Higher Vocational School of Lviv State University of Life Safety (Vinnytsia campus);
  • National University of Civil Protection of Ukraine.

The knowledge gained in this program enabled participants to serve as co-instructors during the autumn practical sessions in Kyiv.

The skills acquired from these trainings are being incorporated into the mandatory curriculum for DSNS sappers and rescuers, underscoring the critical role of mine risk education. The collaboration with GICHD has been instrumental in delivering these high-quality courses, enhancing the professional capabilities of specialists operating in this vital field.

These training initiatives mark a significant advancement in strengthening the safety and preparedness of Ukraine’s emergency response teams amid escalating mine and explosive hazards.

Integrating this updated expertise into DSNS training programs will raise the proficiency of emergency personnel, ultimately improving operational effectiveness and safeguarding civilian populations.
