Two Ukrainians detained at the border with Slovakia: they tried to escape from criminal liability

Border guards of the Chop detachment near the city of Uzhhorod arrested two Ukrainians who attempted to illegally enter Slovakia. Corresponding information was reported by the publication

The law enforcement officers identified the strangers at the border using video surveillance. Two men with backpacks on scooters attempted to cross the border towards the neighboring country but were detained three hundred meters from the dividing line.

Intent to penetrate EU countries

The detainees turned out to be residents of the regional center aged 34 and 43. During the check, it was revealed that both were charged under part 3 of article 307 of the Criminal Code for 'Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogs.' This violation carries a prison sentence of nine to twelve years with confiscation of property.

The offenders admitted that they wanted to illegally enter EU countries for further residence, employment, and to avoid criminal liability. They planned their route in advance and, well oriented in the terrain, set out on their way to the border. The detainees will be held administratively responsible for attempting to illegally cross the border.
