Former MP and former journalist heads UAV squad
According to glavcom.ua: Former journalist and MP of the XVIII convocation Yegor Sobolev reported that he has been appointed as the commander of the unmanned systems squad. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Sobolev's post.
«We have expanded. Based on our enhanced UAV company, a squad of unmanned systems has been formed. I have been appointed its commander. I invite you to join us – I invite you with a clear conscience and the duty to ensure conditions for you to make the maximum contribution to the defense of Ukraine», – the message says.
The soldier reported that over two and a half years of working with UAVs in the current unit, the UAV company has lost two brothers, while destroying hundreds of times more armored vehicles, artillery, infantry, and drones of the Russian occupying forces.
It should be noted that it was recently reported that the new commander of the UAV Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is 49-year-old Robert Brovdi 'Madyar', who became known for his 'Madyar's Birds'.
In May-June 2022, Brovdi created the 'Madyar's Birds' group, which was part of the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade. In January 2024, the unit was expanded to the 414th battalion. However, he did not stop there and scaled his unit up to a brigade (the 414th separate brigade of unmanned systems). 'Madyar's Birds' participated in key operations of the war. They took part in the defense of Kherson, Soledar, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Maryinka, and Urozhayne. After the start of the landing in Krynki, they struck Russian troops on the left bank of the Kherson region.
Ukrainian servicemen continue to strengthen their unmanned systems units and appoint new commanders to lead them. They actively use UAVs in combat operations to protect the country from Russian aggression, contributing to the strengthening of Ukraine's defense capability in wartime.
