Residents on Upper Floors Face Greater Danger During Attacks, Expert Warns

Ivan Perehinets Highlights Risks for Those Living on Higher Levels

According to Главком: Ivan Perehinets, director of the Scientific and Technical Center at the Academy of Construction of Ukraine, has warned that people living on upper floors are at increased risk during shelling. He noted that evacuating from higher stories is more difficult in the event of a fire, and these floors are also more likely to be hit by strikes.

'I would say it is safer not to be on the upper floors, because evacuation is harder during a fire and hits occur there more often,' said Ivan Perehinets.

He added that 'residents of upper floors must be, so to speak, more responsible in such situations.'

Attacks on Kyiv and the Situation in the Darnytskyi District

On the night of May 14, Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Kyiv, damaging several districts of the capital, including:

The search-and-rescue operation in Darnytskyi lasted over 28 hours. The attack killed 24 people, including three children, and wounded 48 residents. Given that more than half of Ukraine's multi-apartment housing stock consists of panel buildings-the most vulnerable to missile and drone strikes-the situation is especially alarming for those living on upper floors.
