2026’s Best Countries to Move To

According to УНІАН — Туризм: Estonia has claimed the top spot in the 2026 ranking of the best countries for relocation. Among the top ten, five nations are European. This study evaluated 192 countries using 24 factors, including taxation, quality of life, healthcare, safety, and political stability. Estonia scored 72.8 points on the Global Relocation Index, standing out for its advanced digital infrastructure, favorable business environment, and opportunities for property ownership. Despite these advantages, the country faces some drawbacks related to its climate and specific tax policies.

The Top Ten Countries

The countries ranked in the top ten are:

  • Estonia
  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Portugal
  • Taiwan
  • Lithuania
  • Hong Kong
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis
  • Czech Republic
  • Malta

The evaluation considered taxes, living standards, healthcare quality, safety, stability, and the ease of settling in a new country. Estonia ranks 12th globally for startup-friendly conditions, according to StartupBlink. Highlighting its digital leadership, over 99% of banking transactions in Estonia are conducted online. About one-third of the population lives in the capital, Tallinn, where the average apartment price is approximately €160,000.

On the downside, Estonia received only 20 out of 100 points for its climate. The personal income tax rate is set at 22%, with a tax-free monthly allowance of €700 introduced in 2026. Additionally, Finland was named one of Lonely Planet’s top 25 travel destinations for 2026. In March 2025, Finland was recognized as the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year by the World Happiness Report.

These findings highlight the growing appeal of Northern European countries among those considering relocation or travel.

Overall, the ranking underscores a rising preference for nations with strong digital infrastructure and supportive business frameworks, such as Estonia. While the climate poses challenges, Estonia remains attractive to foreigners thanks to its economic opportunities. The increasing popularity of Northern Europe, especially Finland, reflects a broader trend of seeking enhanced quality of life and wellbeing in the region.

As countries like Estonia rise in the ranks for relocation, it's worth exploring other regions that prioritize health and well-being. For instance, Valletta, Ikaria, and Sardinia have recently been highlighted as top European destinations for longevity, showcasing how lifestyle factors can influence the quality of life in various nations. This comparison may provide valuable insights for those considering their next move.
