Ukraine’s Edge in Defense Innovation

According to Главком: At the European Defense and Security Summit, EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius praised Ukraine’s defense sector as a global leader in innovation and urged its integration into the European Union’s defense framework. He highlighted how Ukraine’s military industry has evolved to meet the demands of modern warfare, enabling the country to stay resilient amid ongoing conflict.

Kubilius pointed to the rapid expansion of drone production following the start of the full-scale war as a clear sign of Ukraine’s cutting-edge capabilities. He stated that

“Ukraine’s defense industry is the most innovative in the world.”

The Case for EU Defense Integration

The Commissioner also warned that Europe currently lags significantly behind both Ukraine and Russia in missile manufacturing, attributing this gap to the excessive complexity and high cost of European weaponry. In response, he called on the EU to bring Ukraine into its common defense market and future European Defense Union. Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Finnish President Alexander Stubb had similarly described Ukraine’s military as the strongest in Europe.
