European countries have finally realized: war may come to their cozy apartments.

According to Politico, the European Commission is for the first time allocating money to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland for the protection of energy networks - physical barriers, electronic warfare, cyber defense.

It sounds severe until we look at the figure. 113 million euros. For four countries.

This is not a survival strategy. This is a bureaucratic spasm.

Realities of War 4.0

Modern War 4.0 is not about breaking through tank wedges, but systematic destruction of critical logistics, generation, and communication lines. In this model, the main vulnerable node is not the trench line, but the 750 kV autotransformer.

Its protection requires the construction of a concrete sarcophagus covered with a dense electronic warfare dome and layered air defense. This costs billions. Allocating 28 million euros per country means purchasing a drone suppression system for a couple of substations and erecting a pretty fence. In the realities of drone warfare and precision missiles, this is a simulation of security.

Illusion of Security

The experience of our destroyed power plants clearly showed Europe: a total blackout occurs much faster than the UN Security Council can convene. However, instead of real militarization of infrastructure, Brussels bureaucracy engages in financial homeopathy. These 113 million are merely a way to report to the domestic electorate and tick off the box in the "border reinforcement" column.

Potential Difference

Yesterday the EU approved a loan for Ukraine of 90 billion euros. Brussels is ready to invest colossal sums into the buffer zone, just to keep the war from crossing the border. Europe is frantically investing in our front precisely because their own infrastructure is utterly naked. But the paradox is that it is no longer possible to buy off the looming threat with pocket change on NATO's eastern flank.

War of infrastructures is not won by half measures. While we are paying for this experience of destroyed generation, Europe is trying to build a shield of foil. If a swarm of drones flies beyond the Vistula, fences for 113 million will not stop them.
