European Sport Week Celebrated Across Ukraine

According to Рубрика: From September 23 to 30, Ukraine joins numerous European countries in hosting the annual European Sport Week, an initiative launched by the European Commission in 2015 to encourage physical activity and promote healthier, more active lifestyles. This year’s campaign carries the slogan #BeActive your way, highlighting the importance of personalized approaches to staying active. Since 2018, Ukraine has been a committed participant, consistently expanding involvement through a wide range of sports events, open training sessions, and community activities designed for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Since the program’s inception in 2015, over 118 million Europeans have taken part in European Sport Week. In 2025 alone, Ukraine is set to engage more than 57,000 participants. The events are coordinated locally by the Ukrainian Mass Sports Agency with support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the All-Ukrainian Youth Center, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, and the European Commission.

Key Activities and Initiatives Highlighted

Participants in European Sport Week enjoy a variety of activities, including:

  • Sporting and fitness events
  • Open training sessions
  • Competitive tournaments
  • Other engaging physical activities

One notable project underway in the Boryslav community is “Peaks of Courage,” which combines physical training with psychological support and career guidance tailored specifically for veterans.

Matviy Bidny, an event organizer, emphasized: “For the eighth consecutive year, Ukraine participates in European Sport Week as a country actively reshaping its sports system along European lines.”

Andriy Rebrina, representing the Active Parks program, stressed the importance of daily movement: “#BeActive is more than just a week on the calendar – it’s about building a habit of daily physical activity and choosing the type of exercise that fits your lifestyle.”

Overall, European Sport Week serves as a vital platform for encouraging physical activity across Ukraine, attracting growing numbers of people to embrace sports and active living. This initiative not only improves public health but also fosters social engagement by bringing diverse communities together around a shared goal of wellbeing. Its relevance is particularly strong amid ongoing global and national concerns about declining physical activity levels.

Notably, the week will kick off in Ukraine with the participation of Ambassador Oksana Livach, who will play a vital role in promoting the spirit of sports and community engagement.
