Commander in Chernihiv Region Organized Scheme for Soldiers' Payments: SBI Reported Suspicion

The State Bureau of Investigations uncovered a corruption scheme in the Chernihiv region, where a commander and officers of a military unit received bribes for illegal payments to soldiers. In particular, they created a fictitious headquarters where 'servicemen' received money for fictitious duty shifts. Strangely enough, the money was spent on personal needs rather than the needs of the military unit. Currently, all of them have been reported as suspects, and the penalties could be severe - up to 6 years of imprisonment.

This story confirms once again that corruption exists not only in civilian life but also in military life. The state has not only incurred losses of over 2 million hryvnias due to this scheme but has also lost trust in the leadership of military units. It is now important that those responsible are punished so that others do not even think of abusing their position or power.
