Fiorentina Secures Tottenham Defender Dragușin on Loan
Radu Dragușin’s Move to Fiorentina
According to Главком: Italian side Fiorentina has announced the signing of center-back Radu Dragușin, who joins the club on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur in London. The deal is valued at €1.5 million and includes a purchase option that becomes mandatory if certain conditions are met.
Dragușin originally joined Tottenham in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has played for several Italian clubs, including:
- Genoa
- Salernitana
- Sampdoria
- Juventus
Last season, he appeared in 11 matches across all competitions without registering a goal or assist. His contract with Tottenham runs through the summer of 2030.
Player Retirements
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has announced his retirement due to health issues. Additionally, former midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has also ended his playing career, taking up the role of head coach at Arabian Falcons-his last club, based in the United Arab Emirates.
This loan move signals Fiorentina’s strategic effort to strengthen their defensive line, leveraging Dragușin’s prior experience across multiple Italian teams. For the player, the buy option offers a chance to secure a permanent spot if he can showcase his abilities. The retirements of Schmeichel and Shelvey highlight ongoing shifts among prominent players, impacting their former teams and opening doors for emerging talent in football.
As Fiorentina looks to solidify its defense with Dragușin's arrival, Tottenham has also been active in the transfer market, recently securing a new goalkeeper. This strategic move by Spurs not only addresses their own squad needs but also reflects the shifting dynamics within the league.
