Sharan Stays On as Oleksandriya Head Coach Following Relegation to First League
Sharan Continues to Lead the Team
According to Главком: FC Oleksandriya's management has decided to retain Volodymyr Sharan as head coach after the club's relegation to the Ukrainian First League. Sharan, who took charge of the team for the third time in his career this past March, was unable to prevent their drop in division. In the decisive playoff matches to stay in the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL), Oleksandriya lost to Kyiv-based Livyi Bereh. Despite this setback, the coaching staff has been tasked with winning the gold medal and the First League title, which would secure an immediate return to the top flight.
Sharan previously guided Oleksandriya from the First League to the Premier League in the 2014/2015 season, and the club earned a bronze medal in the Ukrainian Championship in 2018/19. That achievement led to Oleksandriya representing the country in the UEFA Europa League group stage. Sharan has apologized to fans and club leadership, acknowledging that their opponents in the two-legged playoff deserved the UPL spot more.
Plans to Strengthen the Squad
Reinforcement plans are already underway. The first officially announced newcomers include:
- defenders Volodymyr Adamyuk and Yuriy Kopyna,
- winger Maksym Tretyakov.
These transfers aim to bolster the squad for the challenges of the First League. The Premier League has also confirmed Oleksandriya's withdrawal from the competition, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
Volodymyr Sharan will continue to lead the team, setting new ambitious goals and hoping for positive changes in the upcoming football season.
The decision to keep Sharan at the helm reflects the club leadership's confidence in his experience and ability to navigate the crisis. The arrival of new players also signals the club's intention not only to establish itself in the First League but also to make a swift return to the elite division. This period will serve as a critical test for Sharan and his coaching staff, as success next season could determine the club's future trajectory and its place in Ukrainian football.
As FC Oleksandriya prepares for the challenges ahead in the First League, the club's strategy includes not only retaining Volodymyr Sharan but also enhancing the squad through new signings. This mirrors recent moves by other clubs in the league, such as Shakhtar Academy product Karavaev returning to his roots after a lack of playing time, highlighting the importance of strategic player management in navigating league transitions.
