GEnx-1B Engine Achieves Landmark Performance
According to НВ — Техно: On July 21 at 11:00 PM, GE Aerospace announced that its GEnx-1B engine, designed for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has reached a major milestone of 50 million flight hours over 14 years of service. This marks the fastest accumulation of flight hours ever recorded by GE Aerospace for a widebody aircraft engine. Currently used by over 50 airlines worldwide, the GEnx-1B logs more than 600,000 flight hours each month.
The engine boasts a dispatch reliability rate of 99.98%, underscoring its exceptional dependability and efficiency. It requires unscheduled removal from the wing for maintenance three times less often than competing engines. More than 2,700 GEnx family engines are now in operation, collectively accumulating nearly 75 million flight hours and completing roughly 12 million takeoff and landing cycles.
Mohamed Ali, President and CEO of GE Aerospace's commercial engines and services division, stated that 'airlines need engines that deliver reliability, durability, predictability, and efficiency on some of the world's most demanding routes, and the GEnx-1B continues to do exactly that.'
Upgrades and Market Impact
The GEnx-2B engine, which powers the Boeing 747-8, has accumulated 24 million flight hours since 2011. Over the past decade, GE Aerospace has upgraded the high-pressure turbine blades and combustion chamber coatings, more than doubling the engine's time on wing between overhauls in harsh operating conditions. Currently, more than 3,000 GEnx engines are either in service or on order, including the engine that powered Qantas's record-breaking non-stop flight from New York to Sydney.
