Hero Artem Amelin: how he stopped a column of enemy tanks in Luhansk region

Senior soldier Artem Amelin from Poltava died on February 25, 2022, after destroying an enemy tank in Luhansk region. He served in the 4th Brigade of Operational Purpose "Rubizh" of the National Guard of Ukraine since June 2021, where he mastered the position of senior machine gunner and always sought to protect our state.

On February 26, on the outskirts of the town of Triohizbenka in Luhansk region, the guardsmen recorded the approach of a column of enemy armored vehicles. Artem was under heavy fire, but still managed to reach the grenade launcher and destroy the Russian tank, jamming the turret.

“When another enemy tank broke through to our positions, I crawled up to the vehicle and hit it with two anti-tank grenades. During this, I managed to cover my comrades' retreat,” witnesses of the events said.

Artem sustained multiple shrapnel injuries, he was taken to the hospital, but during resuscitation measures, the guard's heart stopped. For his courage and heroism, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the order "Gold Star".
