Revocation of citizenship

We remind you that on July 2, based on SBU materials, the Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, known as the activist of the UOC (MP) Onufriy, was revoked. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The SBU established that Metropolitan Onufriy voluntarily acquired Russian citizenship in 2002 without notifying the authorized authorities of Ukraine. However, after that, the head of the Moscow Church in Ukraine continued to use the status of a citizen of Ukraine.

UOC MP Onufriy has a Russian passport, which became known after verification on the official service website of the Russian Federation. It was also revealed that the Metropolitan voluntarily acquired Russian citizenship in 2002 but did not inform the Ukrainian authorities about this. This information emerged in the context of Onufriy being deprived of Ukrainian citizenship by the SBU's decision, which was confirmed by the President of Ukraine.
