Leadership Transition at Ukraine’s Disinformation Defense Center

Andriy Kovalenko, who has served nearly three years as the Center’s head, is resigning. He was appointed to lead the Center on January 26, 2024, by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, having previously been deputy head since December 2023.

Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko of the Ukrainian Armed Forces played a vital role in strengthening the institution and expanding its media initiatives aimed at countering disinformation. Reflecting on his tenure, Kovalenko stated:

"Together with my team, we built a robust institution, enhanced media tools to combat disinformation, and helped shape Ukraine’s information agenda. We also significantly boosted cooperation with international partners." Andriy Kovalenko

The Center’s Strategic Role in National Security

Established in March 2021 as an operational body of the National Security and Defense Council, the Center's mission is to counter current and emerging threats to Ukraine’s information security. Following his resignation, Kovalenko plans to remain engaged in national security efforts and cognitive warfare against Russia. His resignation was officially accepted by President Zelenskyy.
