Hryvnia Falls at the Beginning of 2026

At the beginning of 2026, the hryvnia lost its position against major currencies. The National Bank of Ukraine raised the official dollar rate by 12 kopecks, fixing new values for currencies at the beginning of January. This is reported by RBK-Ukraine.

Exchange Rate of Dollar and Euro in Ukraine at the Beginning of 2026

According to the regulator's data, the official dollar rate as of January 5, 2026, is set at 42.2942 hryvnias per dollar. The euro rate also increased, but less noticeably.

Official indicators:

• US dollar — 42.2942 UAH (+0.12 UAH)

• Euro — 49.5794 UAH (+0.03 UAH)

In the interbank market, following the trading on January 1, the dollar depreciated by 8 kopecks and was traded within 42.12–42.22 hryvnias per dollar. The euro in the interbank quoted at 49.42–49.53 hryvnias, which is 8–9 kopecks lower than the day before.

Situation with Hryvnia and Dollar: Cash and Global Markets

In the cash market, the average selling rate of the dollar decreased by 2 kopecks — to 42.53 hryvnias, while the euro decreased by 7 kopecks, to 50.03 hryvnias. The average buying rates were 41.97 hryvnias per dollar and 49.36 hryvnias per euro.

In the international market, in 2025, the dollar lost part of its value. The euro to dollar rate increased by 13.8% — from 1.0321 to 1.175 dollars. The dollar also weakened against other currencies of U.S. trading partners, as reflected by the spot dollar value index published by Bloomberg. Over the year, this index decreased by 8.4%.

It is reminded that on January 2, the National Bank lowered the official dollar rate to 42.1701 hryvnias, and the euro to 49.5499 hryvnias.

Previously, we wrote that analysts predict that the currency market in Ukraine will remain stable at least until 2027. The dollar rate is likely not to exceed 48 hryvnias.
