Production Network for Russian 9M727 Cruise Missiles Revealed

According to Главком: Ukraine's Defence Intelligence Agency has released a detailed breakdown of the manufacturing network behind Russia's 9M727 cruise missiles, a key component of the 'Iskander-K' system. This disclosure, published on the War&Sanctions portal, includes an interactive 3D model of the missile and identifies 41 companies involved in its production. Notably, eight of these 41 firms are not subject to sanctions from any member of the international sanctions coalition. This revelation highlights critical vulnerabilities in the global effort to constrain Russia's military-industrial complex.

The primary contractor for the missile is the 'Novator' Design Bureau, which operates under the state-owned 'Almaz-Antey' concern. The supply chain involves 39 Russian enterprises and one from Belarus. These facilities are responsible for manufacturing warheads, TRDD-50B turbofan engines, satellite and inertial navigation systems, and specialized electronic components.

Key Companies in the Production Chain

  • The Tambov 'Elektropribor' Plant produces the GIB-123-4 inertial navigation systems.
  • JSC 'High Technologies' manufactures the GTT-37.000 gas generators for the missile's engines.
  • The Volzhsky Electromechanical Plant supplies components for the 9B914 active jamming stations.

In a related development, on February 11, 2026, Russian occupation forces attempted a missile strike on Lviv using Kh-47M2 'Kinzhal' aeroballistic missiles. Both 'Kinzhal' missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed by Ukrainian air defenses before reaching the city. Such attacks underscore the ongoing threat and the importance of mapping and disrupting these military production networks.

The published data on the Russian missile supply chain reveals the complexity and scale of Russia's military industry, as well as the companies that may remain outside sanction regimes. This situation could significantly hinder international efforts to restrict the flow of military hardware to Russia.

Conversely, the successful performance of Ukrainian air defense demonstrates the effectiveness of security measures and preparedness, highlighting the critical need for continuous technological and strategic adaptation in the conflict.
