Guterres stated the critically important role of China in supporting multilateralism

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, stated that China plays a critically important role in supporting relations between countries in modern conditions. He reported this during a meeting with the head of China, Xi Jinping, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin.

'China has made a significant contribution to the protection of international law and the supremacy of international law, and at this moment, when multilateralism is under fire, China's support is an extremely important element for preserving multilateralism,' emphasized Guterres.

The UN leader noted that modern forms of politics may seem less obvious and more reminiscent of a show than serious diplomatic efforts. He stressed the importance of China's role as a fundamental support of the multilateral system and expressed gratitude for its support.

China's obligations to the UN

In response, the head of China promised that China will always be a reliable partner of the UN and will continue to ensure stability and certainty in international relations.

'China is ready to deepen cooperation with the United Nations, supports its central role in international affairs, and will continue to fulfill its obligations to support peace in the world and promote development and prosperity,' said Xi Jinping.

The meeting took place within the framework of the SCO summit, attended by heads of more than 20 member and partner countries of the SCO, as well as leaders of international organizations. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs avoids comments regarding possible participation in providing security guarantees to Ukraine, leaving open questions regarding Beijing's role in resolving international conflicts.

During the meeting between the UN chief and the Chinese leader, an important topic was discussed regarding the support of international law and cooperation between countries. Both leaders concluded that it is necessary to continue cooperation to ensure stability and prosperity in the world.
