Kharkova sensationally won gold at the fencing world championship
Today, July 23, Ukrainian fencer Vlada Kharkova won gold at the fencing world championship. In the final, she defeated Olympic champion Kateryna Lehis with a score of 15-14, which was a real sensation. This victory is the first for Ukraine at this championship, which is being held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
In tense bouts on her way to the final, Ukrainian Vlada Kharkova also defeated the world ranking number one Se Ru Song. She had already secured a medal by reaching the semifinals, defeating strong opponents such as Fiona Gatz, Julia Caron, Blanca Virag Nady, and Eloise Vanrissel.
Ukrainian athletes also performed successfully at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje. Swimmer Makar Yakhno won gold in the 1500 meters freestyle. The Ukrainian team also received two medals at the World Summer Universiade.
