Imported apricots and peaches in Kyiv markets cost half as much as strawberries
Imported fruit arrives at Kyiv markets
According to Главком: Imported apricots, peaches, and nectarines have appeared at Kyiv markets, priced between 75 and 135 UAH per kilogram. These summer fruits are now half the price of strawberries, which range from 150 to 210 UAH per kilogram. The produce on display is mostly small and belongs to ultra-early varieties. All of this early fruit is imported, as domestic peaches and apricots are not expected for another one to one and a half months.
Fruit and vegetable prices
While the last weekend of May saw a strawberry boom in the capital's markets, overall fruit and vegetable prices this summer are expected to remain high compared to previous years. Key drivers include the economic crisis in the agricultural sector and reduced planting areas.
In addition to fruit, the price of young green peas in pods has dropped nearly threefold over the past week. These market shifts reflect how prices are influenced by both imported supplies and domestic agricultural conditions.
The rise in fruit and vegetable prices in Ukraine-especially for strawberries-can be linked to economic factors such as inflation and declining production volumes. At the same time, the availability of cheaper imported fruit may offer some relief to consumers seeking alternatives. Market analysis suggests that consumer preferences could shift in response to price fluctuations, which may in turn affect the agricultural sector in the future.
As the availability of imported fruits increases, the overall agricultural landscape in Ukraine faces significant challenges. Recent reports indicate that the harvest has been halved, leading to new pricing strategies for fruits and vegetables. Understanding these developments can provide consumers with insights into future market trends and pricing shifts.
