Russia has forcibly conscripted Indian students: two have died in the war in Ukraine

According to glavcom.ua: Two Indian citizens who arrived in Russia on student visas have died in the war against Ukraine after being forcibly conscripted into occupying forces. The bodies of 22-year-old Ajay Godari and 30-year-old Rakesh Kumar Maurya were returned to their families back home, reports the Independent.

According to relatives of the deceased, the men traveled to Russia seeking jobs to pay for their studies. They were promised civilian positions, but it later turned out that they were mobilized into the Russian army and sent to the front lines.

The deaths of the students have caused outrage in India regarding the methods of recruiting foreigners into the Russian army. The parents of one of the deceased desperately pleaded with the Indian government to help their son, but authorities' actions did not lead to his rescue.

Russia has recruited over 200 Indian nationals into its army. The Indian government managed to free and return 119 individuals back home, but dozens of other Indian citizens remain in the ranks of the Russian military.

Delhi is actively demanding the return of at least 50 of its citizens who remain in service in the Russian army.

The incident involving the Indian students highlights the complexity of the situation on the war front and the issues related to the mixing of civilians and military conflicts.
