Foreign Nationals Detained in India

According to Главком: Indian authorities have arrested seven foreign nationals, including six Ukrainian citizens, on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks and illicitly smuggling drones. The arrests took place at airports in Lucknow, Delhi, and Kolkata. While all suspects entered India legally, they subsequently traveled to the state of Mizoram without the required permit before crossing the border into Myanmar.

Investigators believe the detainees were involved in organizing the shipment of large consignments of drones from Europe to Myanmar via Indian territory. Three Ukrainians were detained at Lucknow airport, another three in Delhi, and one U.S. citizen was taken into custody at Kolkata airport. A case has been registered against them under Section 18 of India's Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Case Repercussions

Following their arrest, the suspects were transported to Delhi. Initially remanded for three days, a court has now extended their custody by 11 days, until March 27. The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of foreign nationals allegedly intending to commit serious crimes within India and neighboring countries.

This incident underscores the heightened security challenges in the region concerning the illicit flow of dual-use technology like drones. The case may prompt increased security cooperation between India and other nations and could impact Ukraine's international standing. The ongoing investigation will be closely watched for its potential effects on bilateral relations, including those between Ukraine and India, at a time of global geopolitical tension.
