Iran Imposes Ban on Enriched Uranium Exports

According to Главком: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has issued a directive prohibiting the export of the country’s enriched uranium stockpiles. According to Reuters, which cited two senior Iranian officials, this measure specifically targets uranium enriched to near weapons-grade levels.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had assured Israel that Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium could be removed as part of a prospective peace deal. Prior to the outbreak of the war, Tehran had shown a willingness to consider exporting some of its 60%-enriched uranium reserves. Among the options under discussion is the possibility of diluting the uranium stockpiles under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Conditions for Resuming Dialogue

Washington has presented Tehran with five conditions for restarting negotiations. The primary demand is the removal and transfer of 400 kilograms of Iran’s enriched uranium to the United States. In response, Iran-via Pakistan-has conveyed a new proposal to Washington for a long-term truce, in which Tehran expressed readiness to hand over its highly enriched uranium reserves to Russia instead of the United States. This situation highlights the complexity and tension in relations between Iran and international partners, particularly the United States.

These developments underscore Iran’s continued influence in the global geopolitical landscape, especially regarding nuclear program issues. The ban on enriched uranium exports could complicate talks between Iran and Western nations, as it may be interpreted as a signal that Tehran is unwilling to compromise amid heightened tensions. The evolving situation indicates that international efforts to monitor Iran’s nuclear program remain critical and warrant ongoing attention from the global community.

In light of Iran's recent ban on enriched uranium exports, the dynamics of international negotiations are further complicated. This development comes as the U.S. and Iran continue to grapple with each other's demands, including Tehran's insistence on lifting the naval blockade before any meaningful discussions can resume.
