Construction Resumes on Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia: World's Tallest Skyscraper Set for Completion by 2028

Progress on Jeddah Tower's Construction

According to УНІАН — Туризм: Saudi Arabia is advancing the construction of Jeddah Tower, poised to become the tallest skyscraper globally with an approximate height of 1 kilometer. Initiated in 2013, this ambitious project includes around 160 floors, 59 elevators, 12 escalators, and a record-breaking observation deck. Although construction faced delays due to technical challenges, work is expected to restart in early 2025, targeting completion by August 2028.

Serving as the centerpiece of the expansive Jeddah Economic City, which spans roughly 5.3 million square meters, Jeddah Tower is integral to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 economic diversification plan. The architectural design was crafted by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), featuring Adrian Smith, renowned for his role in designing the Burj Khalifa. Due to the site's weak soil conditions, engineers installed 270 foundations reaching depths up to 102 meters to ensure stability.

Construction Milestones

By August 2025, the tower had reached 68 floors, surpassing 80 floors by January 2026. In July 2026, the structure exceeded 106 floors and rose above 420 meters in height. The total floor area of Jeddah Tower is approximately 243,866 square meters. Its observation deck, located 640 meters above ground, offers breathtaking views of the Red Sea.

A spokesperson for Saudi Binladin Group, the company overseeing construction, emphasized, "Safety remains the foundation of every milestone in this skyward-reaching project."

Jeddah Tower is set to become not only an iconic architectural landmark but also a key driver of regional economic growth.

This project aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader strategy to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment. Large-scale developments like Jeddah Economic City highlight the nation's ambition to emerge as a major business and tourism hub in the Middle East.
