Ukraine Sets Minimum Salary for Cardiologists at 35,000 UAH
Why July 6 Matters
According to Главком: World Cardiologist Day, observed on July 6, originated in the early 2020s to spotlight the critical role of cardiology. Cardiovascular diseases claim 17–18 million lives globally each year, while in Ukraine, roughly 500,000 people die from heart conditions annually. Historical references to heart treatments date back to Ancient Egypt around the 17th century BCE, and Leonardo da Vinci conducted early anatomical studies of the heart. In the early 17th century, English physician William Harvey proved the existence of blood circulation.
Cardiologist Salaries in 2026
As of June 2026, the average salary for a cardiologist in Ukraine is 28,000 UAH, a 12% increase from the previous year. Job postings for cardiologists range from 22,000 to 50,000 UAH. Starting January 1, 2026, the government mandated a minimum gross salary of 35,000 UAH for full-time doctors in the public sector. After taxes, a physician takes home 26,950 UAH.
Where Pay Is Higher
In private clinics, cardiologists earn between 35,000 and 55,000 UAH. Highly specialized cardiac surgeons can make 60,000 to 100,000 UAH per month. At major state-run specialized centers, the average salary can reach 66,000 UAH, with top specialists earning up to 100,000 UAH. In active combat zones, doctors are guaranteed at least 40,000 UAH. Rural healthcare facilities apply a correction factor of 1.2. For instance, at the Kosiv Primary Medical Care Center, the average doctor's salary is 44,000 UAH.
Bonuses and Supplements
Cardiologists also receive substantial additional payments. Seniority bonuses range from 10% to 30%, while qualification category bonuses add 5% to 20%. For night shifts and on-call duties, doctors get an extra 20–35% of their base rate per shift.
How Incomes Have Changed Over Seven Years
Data shows that in 2019, the average doctor's salary was 8,500 UAH, rising to 18,600 UAH by 2022. Over 74% of Ukrainians consider the medical profession critically important for the country. Cardiologist earnings continue to climb, reflecting the growing societal value placed on this field.
World Cardiologist Day underscores the importance of cardiac care in combating cardiovascular diseases, which remain a leading cause of death. Rising salaries for cardiologists highlight increasing demand for medical services in this area and the need to attract skilled professionals to ensure adequate healthcare. This trend also mirrors broader improvements in working conditions for Ukrainian doctors, which could enhance the quality of medical care.
