Shift in Momentum on the Ukrainian Battlefield

According to ХВИЛЯ: Keith Kellogg, former special envoy for Ukraine under U.S. President Donald Trump, told TVP World that Ukraine has seized the initiative in the war. He stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has suffered enormous losses-over one million soldiers killed or wounded-and cannot sustain such pressure. Kellogg also criticized a recent summit held in Alaska, calling it fruitless and dismissing the so-called "Spirit of Anchorage" as a bluff.

Why European Support for Ukraine Matters

Kellogg, who served as a Trump advisor starting in 2016, believes Ukraine is now gaining a real edge over Russian forces.

"For the first time since 2023, we see Ukrainians starting to gain a real advantage over the Russians," he noted.

He argued that European nations should take the lead in supporting Ukraine, with the U.S. stepping back. He emphasized:

"Instead of the front row, move to the back. This is on our doorstep, this is in our interest."

Kellogg suggested that Putin, despite massive losses, failed to secure any deal with Ukraine at the Alaska summit: "Putin went to Alaska believing we had an agreement with the Ukrainians to give up land. There was none." According to him, "when they walked out of that meeting, there was no agreement." He added, "This is not a business deal. This is a conflict."

He called on Europe to take the initiative, stating: "You are stronger than you think. You are better than you think." Kellogg also compared Russia's losses to those of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, noting that "the Soviet Union lost 18,000 people in Afghanistan." He commented, "I don't think his society will tolerate this."

In closing, Kellogg stressed that Europe must act more decisively in backing Ukraine, as the regional situation directly affects its own security. He remarked, "You can't just take off the shoulder boards. Once KGB, always KGB."

Kellogg's statements highlight a shift in the military situation on the Ukrainian front and the challenges Russia now faces. Given the casualty estimates he cited and the lack of agreements with Ukraine, this could signal a strengthening of Ukraine's position. Moreover, his call for European countries to ramp up support for Ukraine may reflect a changing geopolitical balance and Europe's growing responsibility in this conflict-which will also impact overall regional security.

As the situation evolves, Ukraine's strategic moves have become increasingly significant. Recent attacks on Russian oil infrastructure have not only disrupted supply lines but also showcased Ukraine's capability to leverage its advantages on the battlefield.
