Charges Brought Against Head of Parliamentary Faction

According to САП: Ukraine's Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have submitted an indictment to court against the head of a parliamentary faction in the Verkhovna Rada. She is accused of offering undue benefits to lawmakers in exchange for their votes.

The suspect was exposed in January 2026. In December 2025, NABU and SAPO uncovered evidence that certain MPs had been receiving illicit payments. According to case materials, the accused initiated talks with legislators about setting up a systematic bribery scheme. This arrangement involved advance payments and was designed to operate over an extended period. Lawmakers were allegedly instructed on how to vote, whether to abstain, or to skip voting sessions entirely.

Legal Classification of the Offense

The defendant's actions are classified under Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty for this offense ranges from five to ten years of imprisonment, with or without confiscation of property. Under Part 1 of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law and convicted by a valid verdict.

This case highlights the ongoing anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine, particularly within state institutions. Continued investigations and trials targeting high-ranking officials could significantly impact public trust in political bodies. Such cases may also drive legislative reforms aimed at improving transparency and accountability in governance.

The ongoing legal proceedings against prominent officials, such as the leader of the parliamentary faction, underline the broader issues of corruption within Ukraine's political landscape. In a similar case, a city council member in the Lviv region is currently facing trial for providing false information to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
