Suspect Accused of Child Sexual Abuse

According to Главком: Authorities in Kyiv have charged a 44-year-old local man with the sexual corruption of a minor. The Darnytsia District Prosecutor's Office announced the suspicion, with details provided by the press services of the National Police of Kyiv and the city prosecutor's office. The case came to light on May 11. The suspect, who is unmarried and lives with his mother, reportedly met the 9-year-old girl near the entrance of his apartment building, gradually gaining her trust.

According to reports, the suspect gave the child various gifts, including:

• a bicycle
• candy
• a mobile phone

He also invited the girl to his home while her mother was at work and committed lewd acts against her inside his apartment. 'The third-grader saw the adult man as a friend and trusted him, so she would go to his home. This so-called friend then engaged in indecent acts with her in the apartment, including exposing his genitals,' law enforcement officials stated.

Arrest of the Suspect

Patrol police officers arrested the suspect near the Kharkivska metro station after he was seen transporting the child on the frame of his bicycle in violation of traffic rules. During questioning, the man could not explain to officers why he was with an unfamiliar girl, whom he was taking to a park for a walk. Later, investigators found photos and videos of a sexual nature involving the minor on the suspect's phone.

The charges fall under Part 2 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (corruption of minors). The penalty for this offense carries up to eight years in prison. The man remains in custody without the possibility of bail.
