Driver Sentenced for Fatal Collision in Kyiv

According to Прокуратура Київ: A Kyiv court has handed down a three-year prison term to a 24-year-old Audi TT driver responsible for a deadly crash at a gas station in July 2023. The incident claimed the life of his 17-year-old brother, who was a passenger in the vehicle. The court also imposed a two-year driving ban as part of the sentence.

Crash Details

The accident occurred on Brovarskyi Avenue, heading toward Budivelnykiv Street. The driver was traveling at speeds between 83 and 98 km/h, well above the posted 50 km/h limit. He crashed into two gas pumps and several vehicles at the station. The driver himself suffered burns over 60% of his body. The collision resulted in damage to multiple cars, including:

  • ZAZ Lanos
  • Daewoo Sens
  • Hyundai Sonata
  • Ford Explorer
  • VAZ 21043
  • Dacia Logan
  • Citroen Berlingo
  • Volkswagen Passat

The gas station building and above-ground equipment were also completely destroyed by fire. The verdict was delivered with the support of public prosecutors from the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

This tragedy underscores the grave consequences of traffic violations, especially speeding, which led not only to the death of a young man but also to substantial property damage.

The court's decision to impose a prison sentence serves as a warning to all road users about the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations.

This incident is not isolated, as another Audi driver from Kyiv was recently apprehended for drunk driving for the third time this year. Such repeated offenses highlight a troubling trend of reckless behavior on the roads, raising concerns about public safety.
