The United Kingdom Reduces Refugee Status to 30 Months: What Will Change

Britain Changes Rules for Refugees
Зміни в статусі біженців у Великій Британії: нові терміни та їхній вплив на життя людей.

The British government is preparing to change the asylum system to curb the flow of illegal migrants and reduce tension in society. From now on, refugee status will be valid for only 30 months, and waiting for permanent residency will take as long as two decades. The government will also periodically review protection decisions and recommend returning home to individuals from countries that have become safe.

Strengthening the rules is a response to the growing pressure on the migration system. In a short time, more men have entered the UK illegally than in the previous year, although the figures are still significantly lower than during the previous conservative government's term. It is unlikely that the governments will continue to undermine the 'golden path' for migrants.

The number of asylum applications is also increasing, indicating a worsening situation. Over the past year, about 111,000 people have applied, the highest figure in the country's history.
