According to Главком: Starting January 1, 2026, Cyprus will take the presidency of the European Union, promising a new approach to negotiations regarding Ukraine's accession and other important issues, including defense and migration. Cyprus' Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos emphasized that Cyprus will focus on Ukraine, which has been defending itself against Russian invaders for four years.
Kombos noted that small states can play an important role in international issues. 'We believe that small states have much to offer in such situations,' he stated. The minister also highlighted that the EU agenda 'rightfully concerns Ukraine, and it will remain so.'
