Chinese scientists from the Beijing Institute of Technology have created 'cyborg bees' – an interesting and promising project that involves embedding miniature controllers directly into the brains of ordinary bees. This allows the insects to be used in military and civilian operations, particularly in searching for survivors after natural disasters.Professor Zhao Zhelian and his team developed a flight control device that is attached to the bee's back and pierces its brain to transmit commands. Scientists see in 'cyborg bees' the potential for use in covert operations and reconnaissance due to their maneuverability and information-gathering capabilities. However, currently, scientists face challenges with the lifespan of the devices and the selection of signals for different insect species. Similar research is being conducted in the USA and Japan, indicating a broad interest in this topic and its potential in various fields.
