Introducing MoBo: Chery's New Humanoid Robot
According to НВ — Техно: Chinese automaker Chery has revealed MoBo, a humanoid robot created to assist lonely individuals and serve as a companion for children. Comparable in size to a toddler, MoBo employs artificial intelligence to tailor its interactions according to the owner's needs. The robot was showcased at Chery’s summit in Wuhu, China, with plans to make MoBo available internationally.
Capabilities and Features of MoBo
MoBo offers a variety of functions aimed at improving the daily lives of elderly people and children. During the demonstration, it was shown to:
- remind seniors to take their medication;
- share stories from the owner’s past;
- assist children in learning new languages;
- teach dance moves;
- tell bedtime stories;
- wake users up every morning.
“It feels like a companion you can hug anytime. It ends loneliness,” said Ivett Gao, commenting on the new product.
Looking ahead, Chery plans to expand its robot lineup to include models designed for industrial tasks and more advanced home assistance. Future household robots are expected to handle chores such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping.
In parallel, Canadian company Realbotix announced its Echo series of humanoid robots featuring silicone skin and support for over 100 languages. The initial batch includes 250 units-225 desktop versions and 25 full-sized models-with deliveries slated for late 2027. Reserving an Echo robot requires a $199 deposit (around 9,100 UAH).
Ivett Gao highlighted the importance of simple yet meaningful interactions in technology: “It doesn’t do anything dramatic. Just small, warm, everyday gestures. Someone remembers. Someone cares.” She added that MoBo "plays, laughs together," and teaches social skills such as communication, sharing, and apologizing. Gao emphasized that every child deserves a constant companion.
The introduction of MoBo reflects a growing technological trend focused on improving everyday life, particularly for isolated elderly individuals and children. Innovations like these have the potential to transform caregiving and social interaction by providing valuable support across multiple aspects of daily living. With the robotics market rapidly evolving, including competitors like Realbotix’s Echo, the field promises exciting advancements ahead.
As Chery introduces MoBo, the landscape of humanoid robots continues to evolve, with innovations like the Echo series from Realbotix also making headlines. These robots, featuring silicone skin and advanced AI capabilities, aim to enhance human-robot interaction, offering a glimpse into the future of companionship technology.
