Chinese tennis player banned for 12 years: why Pan Zhenglun was punished
According to glavcom.ua: A new scandal has shaken the world of tennis! Chinese tennis player Pan Zhenglun has been accused of manipulating match results. According to the International Tennis Integrity Agency, Zhenglun participated in 22 fixed matches throughout 2024. The athlete himself admitted his guilt and is cooperating with anti-corruption authorities, revealing details of his actions.
"I confirm that I participated in fixed matches and tried to bribe other players. I accept responsibility for my actions," said Zhenglun.
The offender received a 12-year ban and a fine of 110,000 US dollars for taking part in 17 attempted bribery incidents and participating in six fictitious matches. This is yet another case of corruption in tennis following the downfall of French tennis player Quentin Folio, who was punished with a 20-year ban for similar violations. Investigations showed that Folio committed 30 violations in 11 matches from 2022 to 2024.
Such scandals tarnish the reputation of professional tennis, so it is important for athletes to adhere to high standards of fair play and sportsmanship.
