Ukrainian Interior Minister Visits Donetsk Oblast

According to ДСНС: During a recent working trip to Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko introduced new leadership for the regional police and State Emergency Service (SES), and held a meeting with commanders. The appointments include Mykola Matviienko as the new head of police for Donetsk region and Yakov Nemikov as the new head of the regional SES department. Both individuals bring substantial prior service experience within the Donetsk area to their roles.

Operational Priorities and Regional Attacks

The meeting focused on key operational priorities for the region, which include:

  • Ensuring civilian safety;
  • Rapid response to threats;
  • Preserving personnel;
  • Clear coordination with local authorities and other security and defense forces.

Denys 'Redis' Prokopenko, commander of the 1st 'Azov' Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard, provided an update on combat results. In March alone, units under his command neutralized over 2,800 enemy troops, shot down more than 5,000 hostile drones, and struck over 90 artillery systems, as well as more than 400 units of enemy equipment.

The situation in the region has remained difficult since the start of April. Russian forces have shelled Donetsk Oblast more than 120 times, resulting in 19 fatalities and 47 people wounded. These figures underscore the critical importance of the new leaders' work and ongoing efforts to bolster security in the area. The Donetsk region remains one of the most active and dangerous fronts in Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.

The appointment of new police and emergency service leaders in Donetsk Oblast reflects the Ukrainian government's efforts to strengthen security in a region heavily affected by combat.

The operational experience of the new appointees is expected to significantly improve threat response and coordination with local communities. Given the current tense situation, such initiatives are vital for stabilizing the region and protecting civilian lives.

In addition to the recent appointments in Donetsk, the Ukrainian government is actively enhancing its defense capabilities. The establishment of specialized drone and air defense regiments within the National Guard aims to further strengthen the region's security framework. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to addressing evolving threats and ensuring the safety of civilians.
